HEADLINE: Whale Protection in Northern BC Waters
SUBHEADING: Conservation plan to protect the Humpback Whales and Orcas in the Gitga’at First Nation land.

BC Whales researchers are fighting back to protect the Humpback whales and Orca whales in the Great Bear Rainforest in British Columbia. Fighting against other companies proposing to have supertankers go through the route with liquified natural gas to Asia. In corporation with the Gitga’at First Nations, they have agreed in order to keep the whales safe they have made an agreement with Goverment of Canada to claim the waters in the Gitga’at Nation as a Marine Protected Area (MPA). This will ensure that the Humpback whales are protected in there natural habitat and for future generations. Using land based research, researchers are able to conduct their research without harming the whales in any way.
SPOKESPERSON:
Janie Wray, lead researcher and CEO of BC Whales is one of the advocates for the protection of specifically the Humpback Whales. Whales to her are a connection from when she was young, now she dedicates her life to these animals.
